TExES Exam Registration:

To register for any of the TExES Exams, the individual pursuing certification must receive approval to test from an education preparation program, have received an approved teaching certificate from an in-state or out-of-state licensing authority, or have earned at least a bachelor's degree in a field related to education for grades 8 - 12 from an approved program. In order for an individual to register for the exam with a bachelor's degree or higher, the individual must obtain a temporary teaching certificate from the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) prior to registering for the exam. Once the individual has received approval to test from an education preparation program or the SBEC, the individual will be able to setup an educator profile online with the SBEC and will receive a Texas Educator Approval (TEA) ID number that can be used to register for the exam(s). An individual with a TEA ID number can register for the TExES online at the Educational Testing Services (ETS) website, by mailing their registration to ETS, or by contacting ETS by phone.

Depending on the specific TExES exam the individual is registering for, the individual may be able to choose to take the exam in either a computerized or paper-based format when registering for the exam. However, most exams are only offered in a paper-based format so this option is only available for certain exams. It is also important to note that there is a $35 computer fee in addition to the registration fee for the exam that is required for an individual to take an exam in a computerized format. There are also other fees that may be required to register for the exam if the individual registers outside of the normal registration period. There is a $30 late registration fee that will be added to the cost of registering for the exam if the individual registers past the normal registration deadline for the exam, but before the late registration deadline. There is also a $70 emergency registration fee that will be added to the cost of registering for the exam if the individual registers after the late registration deadline, but before the emergency registration deadline.
