What are the TExES Exams?
The TExES exam assesses teacher certification in the state of Texas. The Texas Examination of Educator Standards, or TExES, was designed to ensure that beginning teachers are properly trained in their content areas as well as in teaching and learning styles. The TExES test measures a candidate's knowledge against a general standard rather than against the performance of other candidates.
In order to register for the TExES exam, a candidate must receive approval from their Educator Preparation Program. Candidates can register for the TExES exam by visiting the State Board for Educator Certification, or SBEC, website. Candidates must use the SBEC website to create and educator profile containing their name, phone number, address, and e-mail address. Once the profile is completed, the candidate will receive a TEA ID number which will be used throughout the registration and testing process.
Registration can be done by mail, telephone, or online. During registration candidates can select to take the test in the morning or afternoon. Requests are granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Some test centers may not offer both morning and afternoon sessions.
